Charities, Community Buildings & Commercial Premises

Small budgets, serious duties.

Village halls, places of worship, charities and small businesses carry the same legal duties as big organisations with none of the estates team. Our Commercial & Charities Pack points you at the grants that fund safety works and gives you the evidence to apply well.

Grants exist for community buildings. Most people never apply.

Capital grants for community, faith and heritage buildings regularly fund safety and access improvements. Commercial premises are usually self-funded, where the pack becomes an insurer- and lender-ready business case.

Charities & community groups

National Lottery Community Fund

Small and larger community grants that can include capital improvements to buildings used by the community, where the works clearly support safe delivery of your activities. The smallest programme currently offers awards up to £20,000.

Local authority grants, landfill funds & business cases

Councils, parish councils and landfill-communities funds run capital grants for community facilities. For commercial premises, the pack gives insurers, landlords and lenders the structured evidence they ask for.

Community facilities, offices, hospitality and retail
Key to scoring
Independent evidence and a deliverable, costed plan

Programmes open and close, and criteria change. Your pack is checked against current guidance when prepared; always confirm with the funder before submitting.

What funders look for

A small, clear, well-evidenced ask.

Community funders see many applications that are heartfelt but vague. A short, specific request backed by independent evidence and a single clear quote stands out, and it reassures trustees who sign it off.
